Awarded the Air Force Cross. After surviving an IED blast that threw him against a wall, he returned fire and controlled strikes against 350 enemy fighters to save his team. Operating in Nangarhar Province, SSgt Keller's team triggered a massive improvised explosive device during an assault on an ISIS-K compound. Traumatic brain injury notwithstanding, he immediately returned fire and coordinated a massive air response. Over a grueling 15-hour battle, he facilitated the medical evacuation of multiple casualties while continuously directing F-16s, A-10s, and AH-64s. His relentless assault coordination neutralized the sprawling enemy force and ensured the survival of his severely battered task force.
