SrA Dustin Temple
21st STSA Combat Controller with the 21st Special Tactics Squadron, SrA Temple was awarded the Air Force Cross for actions in Helmand Province (2014). He dragged a wounded teammate from a rooftop and directed danger-close strikes while repelling an overwhelming enemy force. During a 48-hour intense battle against heavily armed insurgents, his team faced a massive assault. When a teammate was critically injured, SrA Temple braved a hail of gunfire to drag him off a rooftop to safety. He then returned to the fight, orchestrating danger-close air support—sometimes dropping ordnance within 20 meters of his position. He exposed himself to fire multiple times to throw smoke grenades, mark targets, and resupply ammunition, saving the lives of 38 coalition members and neutralizing over 100 insurgents.
