SSgt Richard Hunter
23rd STSAwarded the Air Force Cross. In Kunduz Province, he repelled a massive ambush, controlling 31 danger-close strikes while physically shielding wounded teammates. During a chaotic 8-hour firefight, SSgt Hunter's team was pinned in a small alleyway. As the enemy closed within 10 meters, he continuously called in airstrikes, adjusting target coordinates while exposing himself to heavy fire. At one point, he used his own body to shield a wounded teammate from a blast, continuing to transmit radio coordinates despite the immense physical toll. His actions directly resulted in the survival of his 57-man joint team and the elimination of dozens of enemy fighters.
